Waste heat discharged into the atmosphere is one of the largest sources of clean, fuel-free and inexpensive energies available. Here we will explore the possibility of using nanofluidic channels confining salt water to convert waste heat into electricity. Using a multiscale approach, we aim to identify configurations with high thermoelectric energy conversion efficiency, providing theoretical guidelines for the development of inexpensive thermoelectric energy converters consisting of earth-abundant materials.
