Mass transport via surface
diffusion is very efficient at small
scales. Thin solid films on crystal
surfaces, therefore behave in an
unexpected way. For example, it can
dewet and form droplets just as a
water film on glass. Such a process
is, like electromigration induced
instabilities, a major source of
failure of nanostructured devices. We
study the basic laws which govern its
evolution.
